This is food for thought.
If eating calcium-rich foods such as dairy do not seem to increase bone density nor decrease risk of osteoporotic fracture, while calcium salt (carbonate, lactate, etc.) supplementation likely increases cardiovascular risk, is a better strategy to supplement/obtain a different form, such as hydroxyapatite, the biological form that calcium is found in within bone?
Here is an interesting observation from the New Zealand group that does a lot of calcium work: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25274192
Here is Dr. James O'Keefe's take on the existing evidence:

3% and 20%. I'd talk to my doctor if I were concerned. There are too many missing pieces in your history and this is no place for medical advice.
But it is a great place for community support!
