I am quite confident that at least 99.999% of the knowledgeable people, nutritionists and doctors still GROSSLY misunderstand and completely misinterpret what brown adipose tissue is about … at this point in time, there’s probably no one out there [who is sharing professional, coherent views with others] who has a better handle on this than Dr. Benjamin Bikman … although, someone like Wim Hof might have a better PERSONAL understanding of the significance of cold adaptation and mental hormesis for overall mental and physical health.
If people want to understand brown adipose tissue, it might be useful to forget everything that they imagine that they know about fat, particularly as it relates to the completely false appearance of health and shapeliness that is entirely false and governed by the propaganda that we’ve been fed through our lifetimes about what is sexy, what is fit, what is healthy. The sign that a human has primarily brown fat is LACK OF SHIVERING … that’s not proof, but a sign … the thermogenesis of converting brown fat does not require the pain of shivering … even though there might be a degree of pain/shivering involved in order for the appropriate signaling to take place to get fat to phenotypically behave as brown or beige. The beiging of fat is something that I wish I could learn more about … at this time, the best source I’ve found is Dr. Bikman, but I hope that there will be others.
I really believe that brown adipose tissue is much more significant than people currently realize … perhaps, I am dead wrong -- but I find the topic fascinating. For example -- I don’t know how we could ever prove this, but it is quite POSSIBLE that people from northern climates, eg Vikings, became so dominant in highly physical warfare because they were not only keto-adapted and they relied on brown adipose tissue rather than wasting effort and focus to carry provisions … they could show up, then fight battles after having expended enormous amounts of energy to travel significant distances because their methods inherently relied upon both carrying and USING FAT. In other words, I do not blame people for not being all that interested in fat -- I think that we have been completely brainwashed culturally to completely misunderstand why animals have fat AND why it is healthy to crave fat, rather than to cringe in disgust when we see, hear about or discuss fat.
