My 80 year old father recently had a heart attack. The doctors now have him on all sorts of medication including statins, blood thinners, inhibitors and beta-blockers. Before this he had been on medication for high blood pressure for a few years.

He has a meeting with his cardiology team on Friday and I would like to question them on the medicine, necessity, etc. Although I have read a lot about cholesterol etc, I still feel stupid and don’t know what to ask. Some background:

- He has been in very good health his whole life and has only been sick/in hospital once - scarlet fever as a young boy
- His heart attack happened during emergency surgery for a burst ulcer (H.pylori implicated and treated)
- His surgeon told me afterwards that the trauma of the surgery caused the "minor" heart attack

I know the medical viewpoint is that people who have already have a heart attack are statistically at high risk of a second, but my argument is that there was/is nothing wrong with his heart and he is unlikely to have a second heart attack. Therefore, all that medicine is unnecessary.

Could I have some advice please? How best to put across my points with doctors and be taken seriously? I am in the UK.

Thank you so much, Kat
