This is referencing the Cleveland Clinic (Steven Nissen, MD) exploring the subject paradox.  As usual, I must ask if this has already been run to ground elsewhere on the Forum?

https://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org/plaque-paradox-statins-increase-calcium-in-coronary-atheromas-even-while-shrinking-them/

In short, this analysis is important to those of us with serious coronary calcification and are conflicted (still) on the benefits/dangers of statins.  I gave up my statin after a lot of research detailing many side effects, industry cover ups, misleading statistics, etc.

So....the consensus on The Forum is calcification is bad, so get scanned, know your score, then adopt the program protocols to stop score progression. This is clear. This paper suggests statins "increase coronary calcification", hence bad. But, it also suggests that the statin driven increase in calcification, "stabilizes coronary plaque to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events". The stabilization of softer, cholesterol laden plaques subject to rupture into inert stable calcified plaques seems like a plausible benefit of statins.

Could there be a benefit to adding some dose of statin, (along with the program protocols) to add this calcification "protection" ? Is this the reason that if one can reduce their damage-prone small particle LDL (program protocols) , while stabilizing their serial CAC scores, their risk of a cardiac event goes to <3% (per Ivor Cummins)?

JennVsDiabesity:

I can’t recall, but have you got liver values tested (ALT, AST and GGT)?

JennVsDiabesity:

Your liver values look terrific.

No need to test more often.

Are purple small raw potatoes allowed?  Are they safe to eat raw? If so, should they be peeled or not?

The Doctors tell me that the risk is in the rupturing of the cholesterol and forming a clot. is the there any alternative to a blood thinner that the doctors prescribe?
