Two years ago, I got my first carotid artery ultrasound that showed multiple plaques. So I took 6 grams of vitamin C per day and sometimes took proline and Lysine and retested a year later.

The results showed more plaques and thickening of existing plaques. In other words, my attempt to cure my artery disease with a big dose of vitamin C + Proline and Lyisne did not work and it took 1 year to find that out and in that year my arteries got a lot sicker.

So, one week ago, I did a coronary artery calcium and got a 24, but I can’t re-do that test either for a year.  I just re-did my carotid artery ultrasound, but that also won’t make sense to re-do for 3 to 6 months.

A few days ago, I did a two hour glucose tolerance test with insulin. My blood sugar results were fasting 105 (my home testing usually shows mid 80’s), 1 hour after 75 g. of glucose I was at 175 mg/dl and two hours I was at 136 mg/dl.  My fasting insulin was 10.4 micro IU/ml, 1 hour post glucose it was 107 and two hours post glucose it was 116.

I can’t re-do this test more often than about once every three months either.

Everyone in the field of health has an opinion on what is good for you, but we all vary genetically, so even advice that is excellent for 90% of people, might be terrible for me. The vitamin C advice I followed may have been good for me, but it definitely didn’t stop the progression of my disease.

So I am looking for a list of tests that I can do either weekly at a lab or better yet at home that will 100% prove if I am making progress or not. I would like to be able to change a failed mistake before my plaques get bigger and more vulnerable.

I have blood sugar and ketone meters, blood pressure cuff and can get most typical home testing equipment.

I’ve thought about doing a once per week lab test for fasting glucose and insulin (to calculate my HOMA-IR score). I could easily and cheaply include a weekly cholesterol panel. Home cholestrol testing meters do exist so I suppose I could do that too.

So what tests can I do at least weekly that will show if I am making progress or not? I can’t afford any more 1 year mistakes.

D-Ribose is better in bulk powders, not capsules.

It takes too many capsules to get a good dose of it.

It works good to put it in your coffee in the morning.

I am not yet taking D-Ribose because I ran out two weeks ago. Since then I have re-ordered from three different suppliers, but none of the shipments have arrived yet.

This is the pattern of someone who has lost a modest quantity of weight, Brent: drop in HDL, rise in triglycerides. This is transient and will improve once weight loss plateaus for several weeks.
