This is Richard Russell, 71 year old male with no cardiac symptoms, height: 5 feet 6 inches, weight: 145 lbs.  I do Crossfit three times a week which is strength training and high intensity interval training.  My wife and I follow Dr. Davis’ grain free and low carb diet (past 3 years), along with the recommended supplements, and despite this, my cardiac calcium score more than doubled in the last 3 years.  I have purchased and tested with the Aire device, and was negative for SIBO.  (Just FYI, my wife’s calcium scan scores were 0 three years ago and now).

I just saw my cardiologist yesterday because of the increased calcium scan score of 839.64 (up from 346.84 three years ago).  He ordered some blood tests, carotid ultrasound, and a stress echo, and said to wait on test results before deciding on treatment.  But he stated that based on the increase on the calcium scan scores, he may end up recommending Crestor and change to a Vegan diet.  He stated I may have a genetic predisposition for the buildup.

What is Dr. Davis’ opinion on addressing/treating elevated lipoprotein(a) levels?
What is Dr. Davis’ opinion on a vegan diet versus his grain free/low carb diet, which includes unlimited meat, for someone like me, who is trying to reduce or arrest the increase of my calcium scan scores?

GSH1965,
Looks like my LDL-P was 2200, small particles 1800, back in 2009, when my trigs were 120 and I hadn’t gone off wheat/sugar/carbs.

richandmarti:

Makes sense.

Do you have any prior Lp(a) test results or was 387 the one and only value you have?
